LD2 March Legislative Update

Advocating for Arizona in a Hostile Legislature

Although LD2 Representative Stephanie Simacek could not attend our March meeting, we shared a legislative update highlighting the important work she and fellow Democrats are doing and the extremist bills we’re fighting against.

📽️ Watch: Rep. Simacek in Action

Rep. Simacek is standing up for our community, defending our rights, and advocating for common-sense solutions.

Good Bills—Blocked by GOP Leadership

Nine bills—focused on healthcare, affordable housing, and consumer protection—have been assigned to committees but are being deliberately ignored by Republican leadership:

  • HB2782 (Simacek): Establishes a Healthcare Claims Consumer Assistance Program to help residents appeal denied claims.
  • HB2757 (Mathis): Bans price gouging of essential generic drugs.
  • HB2360 / HB2848 / HB2847 (De Los Santos): Curb corporate housing grabs and algorithmic price fixing.
  • SB1397 / SB1402 / SB1403 / SB1209 (Burch, Ortiz): Senate versions of the same key consumer protection and healthcare bills.

🔴 These bills reflect real solutions—but Republicans are refusing to hear them.

WTF Bills on the Move

Meanwhile, a wave of radical, anti-democratic bills is advancing quickly:

  • SCR1028: Requires a 60% supermajority to pass school bonds, undermining local control.
  • SB1001: Ends early drop-off of ballots the Friday before Election Day—voter suppression in disguise.
  • HCR2057: Guts citizen initiatives by requiring signatures in all 15 counties.
  • HB2670: Mandates biased fetal development content in schools, without requiring sex education.
  • SB1694: Defunds universities that offer DEI courses.
  • SB1298 / SB1693: Expand tax breaks and privileges for private religious schools.
  • HB2700: Requires AZ social studies to include the “Gulf of America”—yes, really.

💬 It’s clear the GOP majority is focused on culture wars, silencing voters, and protecting corporate interests—not solving real problems.
